As part of the CHARM-ED project “Inclusive Assessment in Language Teaching”, the event brought together colleagues from both institutions for a day of discussion and exchange in Barcelona. The programme included presentations from Trinity College Dublin, a workshop on terminology, the presentation of research findings, a session on Universal Design for Learning, and opportunities for networking during coffee breaks.
Made possible through CHARM-ED, the project combines Trinity’s strong policy foundations with the University of Barcelona’s extensive experience in large-scale language testing. Together, the partners are reviewing existing policies, facilitating collaborative dialogue, and developing a practitioner report that will provide recommendations and guiding principles for inclusive language assessment.
The event was a great success and received very positive feedback from participants, including academic and professional staff from a variety of language areas within the Escola d’Idiomes Moderns (EIM).
Some of the conclusions from the day were:
- The need for input from students in the project to better understand their needs
- The desire for more training for teachers to address the requirements of all candidates
- The desire for good practice guidelines for the EIM
- A follow-up session in Dublin at the beginning of December focused on helping plan for a possible second phase of the project to address these issues

It provides small-scale seed funding for academic and professional staff to develop innovative educational activities aligned with CHARM-EU educational principles collaboratively.
