Explore New Horizons – Mobility Opportunities for Doctoral Candidates within CHARM-EU

Are you interested in expanding your research, building international collaborations, or gaining new academic perspectives? Doctoral mobility can open new doors for your personal and professional development. As a doctoral candidate at one of the CHARM-EU partner universities, you have the opportunity to take part in a wide range of mobility programmes designed specifically for researchers at your stage.

International mobility during your doctoral studies offers significant benefits:

  • Deepening your research by engaging with diverse methodologies and disciplinary approaches
  • Strengthening your academic profile and language skills
  • Expanding your professional networks and building long-term research partnerships
  • Enhancing the overall quality of your doctoral project through co-supervision and collaborative research

Your mobility is also a contribution to institutional growth. Supervisors and institutions benefit from the exchange of knowledge and ideas, while universities increase their international visibility and impact.

What types of mobility are available to you?

Within the CHARM-EU Alliance, doctoral mobility is strongly encouraged and supported through various formats, including:

  • Research stays, lab work or job shadowing in partner institutions
  • Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs) combining online learning opportunities and short-term physical mobility
  • Study abroad programs for an entire semester (only for doctoral students)

In addition, CHARM-EU is committed to developing innovative formats tailored for doctoral candidates. In spring 2025, three Transnational Online Learning (TOL) courses will be launched specifically for doctoral researchers. These courses offer flexible, cross-institutional learning opportunities without the need for physical relocation.

Where to start?

Depending on your current status, there are different routes to participate:
