How can we learn more systematically from our teaching? How can we generate evidence about student learning while contributing to educational innovation across Europe?
The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) offers a framework for investigating questions about teaching and student learning in a systematic, evidence-informed, and scholarly way. Across Europe, related concepts are known under different names, including vitenskapelig tilnærming til undervisning, forschendes Lehren, onderzoek naar je eigen onderwijs, l’enfocament acadèmic de la docència i de l’aprenentatge, ett vetenskapligt förhållningssätt till undervisning, tanítást és tanulást vizsgáló tudományosság or démarche de recherche et de réflexion sur l’enseignement et l’apprentissage.
This interactive online workshop invites academic staff from all CHARM-EU universities to discover how SoTL can support their professional development, enhance student learning, and strengthen a shared European culture of educational innovation. Whether you are new to SoTL or already exploring evidence-informed teaching, this session will provide practical tools and inspiration for your own teaching context.
During the two-hour webinar, participants will:
- explore the foundations and purpose of SoTL;
- identify teaching and learning questions that can be investigated systematically;
- become familiar with common SoTL approaches and examples from CHARM-EU institutions;
- reflect on challenges and opportunities arising from diverse disciplinary, cultural, and educational contexts;
- develop an initial idea for a potential SoTL project related to their own teaching.
