This statement has been published with the „aim of expressing a common position on Open Science, based on professional consensus, in response to the current paradigm shift in the world of science, which, in line with the recommendations of international science organisations and the relevant policy objectives of the European Union, summarises the principles and the fields of activity of Open Science that best serve the interests and development of Hungarian science”.
At the signing ceremony, Lénárd Darázs, ELTE Vice-Rector for General Affairs, emphasized that joining the position paper was of paramount importance for the university, and that several related programs have been launched at the institution. He also highlighted the importance of international cooperation such as the TORCH project, the CHARM-EU R&I dimension, in which ELTE is responsible for the Open Science work package.
István Szabó, Vice-President for Science and International Affairs of the NRDI Office emphasized that they are confident that in connection with ELTE’s good example and commitment to Open Science, several institutions will join the statement in the future. In addition to making research data and publications accessible, he also argued for the widespread application of the citizen science concept, as new types of science communication can also bring about positive change in society.
