In her statement, European Commission Executive Vice-President Roxana Mînzatu emphasized that European Universities alliances represent a pioneering model of transnational cooperation in higher education, characterized by a long-term strategic vision that positions them to compete on a global scale.

The initiative allows students to benefit from programme at bachelors, postgraduate and doctorate level – with Alliance groups across several teaching subjects including in areas of engineering, space, digital transformation and global health to name a few. For young people, in school today – this initiative holds much promise of what their future third level education might look. A scenario where knowledge and learning is viewed in terms of centres of excellence, and students get access to this without being bound or restricted by borders.”

The event also featured three testimonials from students and graduates of European Universities alliances from CHARM-EU, EU-CONEXUS and ARQUS, who shared how these programmes have shaped their academic and professional journeys.

CHARM-EU Alumnae, Itziar Salazar Caballero, Representing Graduates from Joint Programmes

One of the speakers, Itziar Salazar Caballero from Spain, is a graduate of CHARM-EU’s joint master’s programme on Global Challenges for Sustainability. She is working now as the Manager of the hub for Global Sustainability.

She reflected on her transformative experience as part of the first cohort of the master’s programme, stating:

“A key strength of the programme is its emphasis on preparing students for teamwork in remote, transdisciplinary, and intercultural environments. This is a crucial ability in today’s globalised world, where effective communication and collaboration across borders are essential.”

Itziar also highlighted the professional network she built during her studies, including peers, professors, and partners from five different countries. This network, she explained, has opened doors, and will continue to support her career growth.

Beyond the academic and professional benefits, she described CHARM-EU as a “life-changing experience,” fostering personal growth and exposing her to diverse perspectives that have left a lasting impact.
