Diverse and transdisciplinary programme
The Master’s in Global Challenges for Sustainability is a pioneering programme in higher education, offering an 18-month course that is jointly delivered by five respected universities: Universitat de Barcelona (UB), Trinity College Dublin (TCD), Utrecht University (UU), Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), and Université de Montpellier (UM).
Students from around the globe
In September 2024, the fourth cohort of the master’s programme will begin with 46 students. For the first phase of their programme, students can choose from three universities. At Utrecht University, 20 students will start, 18 students at UB, and 9 students will begin at Trinity College Dublin. In the second phase, students change locations and will follow modules related to one of three themes: food, water, and life & health. Remarkable is the popularity of the food track. Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest will host 23 students, the University of Barcelona 14 students, and the University of Montpellier 9 students.
The students in the fourth cohort are mainly from Europe, with the Netherlands having the highest number at 12. Eight students come from outside Europe: from Canada, Indonesia, Mexico, and the USA.
International and innovative learning experience
The CHARM-EU Master’s programme stands out for its innovative pedagogical approaches and the integration of mobility options, including switching campuses, short mobilities within phases, and virtual mobility. This flexibility fosters a rich intercultural experience, enabling students to attend lectures in one university while connecting with others online.
A characteristic of the CHARM-EU initiative is its emphasis on co-creation and innovation. Students are not just passive recipients of knowledge; they actively contribute to shaping and improving the programme for future cohorts. This collaborative spirit extends to interactions with a network of academic experts and external stakeholders, enhancing the educational experience and boosting employability prospects.
Joint degree
The degree awarded at the completion of this programme is accredited and jointly recognised by the CHARM-EU alliance institutions in Spain, Ireland, the Netherlands, Hungary, and France. This joint accreditation underscores the programme’s commitment to high academic standards and its international prestige.
