Short description

The aim of the course is to give an overview of the relation between climate change and psychology. Among the topics covered during the course are core concepts within climate change and psychology, such as basic understanding of the science and impacts of climate change at global and local levels, human and social adaptions to climate change, and various solutions to the problem of climate change.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the learner will be able to:

· describe the basic scientific evidence for climate change and its effects on nature and societies

· understand how certain features of human social behaviour are related to climate change

· understand what kind of solutions psychology as a science can offer to climate change

General abilities:

Critical thinking, mastering multifaceted topics, ability to recognize relevant information

Course requirements

Some basic knowledge about social and cognitive psychology such as human attitudes and biases is recommended but not required.

Teaching materials will be available on the learning platform, mostly scientific articles.

Planned educational activities and teaching methods:

Online teaching, group discussions, study materials (articles, videos etc.).

The course is provided online with distance teaching via Zoom. Online courses with distance teaching contain teaching sessions via Zoom, on specific dates and times. Please note! Working camera and microphone is needed for participation in the course.

Wednesdays at 18:00-19:30 (20:30). Teaching schedule: 26 March 18-19.30: Kick-off. 9 April 18-19.30: Discussion on topics and start of group work. 23 April 18-19.30: Discussion on topics and group work session. 7 May 18-19.30: Supervised group work session. 21 May 18-20.30: Poster presentations.
