We look for participation by faculty across disciplines to offer online BA/BSc, MA/MSc and PhD level courses for university students of the CHARM-EU Alliance. We welcome your contributions for the Autumn/Winter Semester of the 2026/2027 academic year. Course offers for the Spring / Summer Semester of the 2026/2027 academic year are also welcome, however, there will be a further call next spring when courses for the following semester can be offered.
CHARM-EU represents a Challenge-Driven, Accessible, Research-based and Mobile model for the co-creation of a European University aligned with the European Values, the European Green Deal and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This international programme employs innovative pedagogical approaches and mechanisms to engage staff and students of diverse backgrounds and disciplines to facilitate, foster and enhance the links between education, research, and innovation.
Example: Martin is studying for his Bachelor’s in Business Studies at Utrecht University. As part of his studies, he identifies an online module on Critical Thinking Skills on the CHARM-EU Virtual Exchange catalogue delivered by Eotvos Lorand University. He applies for this module and completes it virtually. He then receives a transcript of records for 5 ECTS credits that can be used for his Bachelor’s.
CHARM-EU Universities are providing access to a certain set of their online courses for the students at the partner universities, and facilitate transnational online learning activities. This way, students get first-hand transnational experience without physical mobility. The credits of the online courses might be recognised in line with the standard procedures of the home university of the student.
Students from Åbo Akademi University, Eötvös Loránd University, Utrecht University, Julius-Maximilians-University Würzburg, the University of Bergen are able to receive credits for their participation. Students from the other universities can participate without receiving credits, similarly to the students of the Global Challenges for Sustainability Joint Master programme.
This is the sixth call for transnational online learning activities. In the first five editions, we offered altogether 143 courses, and we received around 1150 registrations. We wish to build on our success to offer a greater range of courses to our CHARM-EU partner institution students and support our teaching staff in expanding the impact of their teaching.
If you are ready for an international university challenge, interested in becoming a member of an international faculty, then please submit your course. Your course should follow these criteria:
Course criteria:
accredited as a core or as an elective course in a BA/BSc, MA/MSc or PhD programme at your university (students gain credits from the course) or
additional/optional courses where students get a certificate for participation (including the number of hours spent with the course), for which students might gain credits;
delivered in English, French, German or Spanish;
course materials are available online in an LMS (Moodle, Teams, Canvas, etc.);
either fully online (all students are online) or hybrid (regular students are offline, virtual exchange students are online at the same time);
delivered either synchronously or asynchronously;
interactive (seminars are preferred to lectures, where students have an opportunity to interact with the course materials, the instructor, and the other students in the class, for example during international group projects, Moodle forums or breakout rooms); preferably designed and delivered in a way that it capitalises and/or reflects on the international and intercultural diversity of the participating students;
Before submission, please make sure that the technical conditions of teaching online / hybrid can be ensured at your university, faculty or department.
Deadline for submission of your course: 4th of May 2026. Decision on the courses offered and publication of the course catalogue will be made in mid-November also considering a certain level of balance between the partner universities. Courses will be run in line with the academic calendar and the standard administrative procedures of the host university.
Academics running CHARM-EU transnational online courses will be provided with consultation opportunities and training sessions on the CHARM-EU framework, with a special focus on the pedagogical principles and educational approaches. This will also provide an opportunity for networking between the academics involved in the CHARM-EU transnational online learning initiative.
