How can universities create meaningful learning experiences when students and teachers are no longer confined to a single classroom or location?
This CHARM ON session focuses on Hybrid Teaching and examines how higher education is adapting to increasingly connected and flexible forms of learning. Bringing together perspectives from across the CHARM-EU community, the discussion will explore how hybrid formats can support interaction, participation, and international exchange between learners and educators in both physical and digital spaces. Rather than treating hybrid teaching purely as a technological question, the session asks what kinds of pedagogy, communication, and learning environments are needed to make these formats engaging, inclusive, and sustainable in the long term.

Cengiz Hakan AYDIN, PhD, has offered courses in the fields of open and distance learning, educational communications and technology, and designing learning processes, experiences, media. After having served as an instructional designer, department chair, director and dean in Anadolu University, Dr. AYDIN joined Ozyegin University as the Director of the Office of learning and Teaching Enhancement (OLTE) in 2024.
Dr. AYDIN’s research interests focus on a range of topics, such as innovative and flexible learning processes, environments in higher education and corporate settings, design and development of learning environments, integration of new technologies (AI, VR, AR, MR, etc.) into educational and training, Open Educational Resources (OERs), Open Educational Practices (OEPs), Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), micro-credentials, and current trends in higher education and corporate education.
Dr. AYDIN has been serving as a board member of the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT) and a member of the Centre for Distance Education Research (COER). He is also on the editorial boards the OpenPraxis and the Journal of Open, Distance, and Digital Education (JODDE).
Clémentine Colomer, PhD, works as Teaching Assistant and Educationalist at Montpellier University. She’s been following the Global Challenges for Sustainability Master Programme for 4 years, during which she helped teachers and students alike to adapt to innovative hybrid educational practices.
Robert Gray is Professor of University Pedagogy and leader of the TeLEd research group at the University of Bergen in Bergen, Norway. He holds a Ph.D. in Instructional Technology from the University of Alabama and has over twenty-five years of experience in university pedagogy, particularly in regard to online learning and other uses of technology in the teaching and learning process. His research interests include teaching and learning in higher education, how technology impacts assessment practices in higher education, interaction, and how to define quality in teaching and learning.
Nataliia Lazebna’s experience includes TESOL‑focused professional development programmes at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (online), as well as collaborative OPEN initiatives with colleagues across the United States, Turkey, Estonia, and other countries. Drawing on these international models, she adapted the educator‑observation worksheets used in Peer Observation in CHARM‑EU, integrating evidence‑based approaches to reflective teaching, intercultural pedagogy, and collaborative course design.
She currently serves as Education Manager for the CHARM‑EIGHT Project at the University of Würzburg, where she contributes to innovative European higher‑education initiatives and supports pedagogical development across partner institutions. Before this role, she worked as a researcher in the TEFL Department and co‑coordinated the SCIENTIA International programme. Her academic background includes a Habilitation on the linguistic and semiotic analysis of English‑language digital discourse and more than a decade of experience as an Associate Professor in Ukraine.
