CHARM-EU participates in the 3rd Forum of European University Alliances in Poland

As part of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Forum European University Alliances took place last 12 and 13 of June at the University of Wrocław, with participation of CHARM-EU representatives. Issues such as the new ‘Union Skills’ priority of the Erasmus+ program, the path to the European Degree, and strategies to ensure more sustainable funding of alliances were addressed during the forum.

CHARM-EU participated last 12 to 13 June in the 3rd Forum of European Universities alliances, which took place from at the University of Wroclaw (Poland).

Dr. Bibiana Crespo Martín, Rector’s Delegate for International Mobility and Global Engagement at the University of Barcelona, attended the Forum as CHARM-EU representative. Also attended the Forum Itziar Salazar, former CHARM-EU master’s degree in Global Challenges for Sustainability and current Manager of the Global Sustainability Hub at the University of Barcelona. Salazar participated as Speaker in the session “Students in the centre of EUI”, which brought together student leaders from European organisations and active representatives from individual alliances.

Among the key speakers of the 3rd Forum of European University Alliances were Laurence Farreg, member of the European Parliament; Vanessa Debiais-Sainton, from the European Commission; Maria Kelo, from the European University Association (EUA); Tayyeb Shah, president of the European Association for International Education (EAIE); and Veronika Kupriyanova, from the Academic Cooperation Association (ACA). Also participated representatives of student organizations such as the European Students’ Union (ESU), with Iris Kimizoglu, and the Erasmus Students’ Network (ESN), with Rita Dias, among others.

The forum’s discussions focused on analyzing the impact of the European Universities Initiative on current social challenges, as well as the need to strengthen European unity and values. Issues such as the new ‘Union Skills’ priority of the Erasmus+ program, the path to the European Degree, and strategies to ensure more sustainable funding of alliances are also addressed.

Itziar Salazar (CHARM-EU graduate and Manager at UB) and Enrico Green, Student Representative from EUCONEXUS alliance, participated in the round table “Students in the centre of EUI”.

The Forum European University Alliances is a continuation of events serving as a platform for dialogue, exchange of experiences, and shaping the future of European higher education. This event brought together more than 250 representatives of the 65 European university alliances,  academic and administrative representatives of individual networks, national agency officials, as well as policymakers, and public administration representatives to jointly analyze key challenges and opportunities facing the European Higher Education Area.

The forum is consolidating itself as a key space for the exchange of ideas, experiences and strategies between the participating institutions with the aim of improving the future of European higher education.
