The main focus in this course is to prepare to student to reading and understanding the central philosophical texts, and to critically assess contemporary popular source-texts on yoga philosophy.
This course takes a look at the most prominent philosophical texts on yoga. Despite their going back in time around two millenia, the central ideas of Bhagavad-gita and Yoga-sutra continue to be studied by yoga-practitioners-teachers today. These texts have a central position in the classic Vedic philosophy. Both are related to their respective philosophical schools of Vedanta (Bhagavad-gita) and Sankhya-Yoga (Yoga-sutra). To understand these texts, it is necessary to explore some of the central ideas of the upanishads, Sankhya, and Vedanta as well.
