Students from around the globe enjoy the CHARM-EU Experience
In September 2025, the fifth cohort of the master’s programme began with 62 students. For the first phase, students could choose from four universities: Trinity College Dublin (16 students), Utrecht University (17 students), Eötvös Loránd University (15 students), and the University of Würzburg (14 students). In the second phase, students will change locations and follow modules related to one of three themes: Food, Water, and Life & Health.
Within the CHARM-EU Master’s in Global Challenges for Sustainability, the lives of international students change as they begin a new and unique chapter: the CHARM-EU experience. In the following days, we collected some of their first impressions—like those from Li and Elena—answering questions such as “Why did you choose CHARM-EU?” and “What are your first impressions of your new university?”

Diverse and transdisciplinary programme
The Master’s in Global Challenges for Sustainability is a pioneering programme in higher education, offering an 21-month course that is jointly delivered by its nine respected universities: University of Barcelona, Trinity College Dublin, Utrecht University, the University of Montpellier, Eötvös Loránd University Budapest, Åbo Akademi University, Julius-Maximilians-University Würzburg, Ruhr West University of Applied Sciences and the University of Bergen.
International and innovative learning experience
The CHARM-EU Master’s programme stands out for its innovative pedagogical approaches and integration of mobility options, including switching campuses, short-term mobility within phases, and virtual mobility. This flexibility fosters a rich intercultural experience, enabling students to attend lectures at one university while connecting with others online.
A hallmark of the CHARM-EU initiative is its emphasis on co-creation and innovation. Students are not just passive recipients of knowledge—they actively contribute to shaping and improving the programme for future cohorts. This collaborative spirit extends to interactions with a network of academic experts and external stakeholders, enriching the educational experience and enhancing employability prospects.
