Inclusive education
This activity plan was designed to address a growing diversity of student needs in an interdisciplinary MSc programme, to ensure equitable learning opportunities for all students. The workshop aims to equip academic staff with the knowledge and tools to enhance the inclusivity of their education. The session begins by encouraging participants to reflect on their understanding of inclusivity and its role in shaping effective learning environments. Central to the workshop is the introduction of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), a framework that makes education accessible to all students by emphasizing flexibility, diversity, and equity (Rose, 2000). Through engaging discussions and examples, participants explore the core principles of UDL and discover how these concepts can be practically implemented in their own modules. The session also provides a hands-on opportunity for participants to brainstorm and develop concrete ideas for making their teaching more inclusive. Using an Inclusivity Checklist, they assess their current practices, identify gaps, and apply UDL concepts to design actionable strategies. The session concludes with a gallery walk, where participants share the results of their brainstorming activities and provide peer feedback.
