Call for Submissions: CHARM-EU Open Science Recognition Award

Deadline:

Audience:

We are delighted to announce the call for submissions for the CHARM-EU Open Science Recognition Award. This award aims to recognize and celebrate the contributions of individuals and teams engaged in teaching and research within the CHARM-EU Alliance who have demonstrated a strong commitment to Open Science.

Open Science represents a fundamental shift in the way research and knowledge are created, shared, and utilized. It encompasses the principles of transparency, inclusivity, and collaboration, thereby fostering innovation and societal impact. The CHARM-EU alliance is dedicated to promoting Open Science as a crucial pillar of its mission, and this award is part of our commitment.

Eligibility

All individuals or teams engaged in research or teaching in the CHARM-EU member universities who have worked with Open Science are invited to apply for the CHARM-EU Open Science Recognition Award. We welcome applications from all academic disciplines.

Categories

Individual application: for individuals applying Open Science practices, improving processes at their institution based on Open Science principles on their own.

Team application: for groups applying Open Science practices, implementing Open Science related tasks or projects as shared tasks, in teamwork.

Important: individual staff members are allowed to submit an application on their own as well as part of a group but the individual application must be based on an activity different from the one described in the Team application.

Evaluation Process and Criteria

Each submission will be evaluated by a jury comprising Open Science experts from every institution within the CHARM-EU alliance. The jury will assess the submissions based on their alignment with Open Science principles and the impact of the described activities.

For more information on the principles, namely the 8 pillars of Open Science, please consult the EU’s Open Science Policy website here: eus-open-science-policy.

Evaluation Criteria

  • relevance for open science and open scholarship
  • success of implementing open science principles (such as transparency, reproducibility)
  • success of implementing digital sustainability (for example, proper use of open licenses and reliable digital services)
  • collaboration and community engagement
  • benefits for the research milieu

Award Benefits

Individual application: The winner of this year’s CHARM-EU Open Science Recognition Award will have the opportunity to travel to one of the CHARM-EU sites* and consult with local experts on strategies and practices for promoting Open Science. This visit will provide insights, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange among the awardee and the local Open Science community.

Optional study trip sites:

  1. University of Barcelona (Barcelona, Spain)
  2. Trinity College Dublin (Dublin, Ireland)
  3. Utrecht University (Utrecht, The Netherlands)
  4. University of Montpellier (Montpellier, France)
  5. Eötvös Loránd University Budapest (Budapest, Hungary)
  6. Åbo Akademi University (Turku, Finland)
  7. Ruhr West University of Applied Sciences (Mülheim, Germany)
  8. Julius-Maximilians-University Würzburg (Würzburg, Germany)
  9. University of Bergen (Bergen, Norway)

Team application: The group winning this year’s award in the Team category can choose from two options. Either one representative of the team travels to one of the CHARM-EU sites (see above), or the team contacts one individual expert with whom they would like to strengthen their collaboration (desirably but not necessarily related to Open Science) from one of the CHARM-EU member universities and invites this expert to their institution via CHARM-EU mobility.
