While celebrating the Cultural Festival hosted at the Faculty of Humanities at ELTE, CHARM-EU partner universities will simultaneously offer onsite or online a variety of engaging and attractive activities for students, university staff members, CHARM-EU members, and anyone interested in intercultural and multilingual experiences.

Below is a preliminary list of activities scheduled for the afternoon of Tuesday, November 5th, and Wednesday, November 6th, 2024.

The final list of activities and the exact place and time of the programmes will be published here on the first weeks of October, 2024. Some of the activities will require registration, please check below the programmes you like to join and its capacity.

EN – Instragram Short Film Festival

Open festival for all CHARM-EU partner universities’ students, who would like to present a short film (reels) around intercultural situations, experiences, issues, where the participants use at least 2 languages. The nine best preselected films will be shown via Instagram and the voting system will open taking into account the number of likes of each video.

CA – Concurs de vídeos curts a Instagram

Concurs obert a tots els estudiants de les universitats sòcies de CHARM-EU que vulguin presentar un vídeo curt (reel) sobre situacions, experiències, qüestions interculturals, en què els participants utilitzin almenys 2 idiomes. Els nou millors vídeos es penjaran al perfil d’Instagram de CHARM-EU i el vídeo que obtingui més “m’agrades” serà el guanyador.

EN GSiK Theme Week Meets CHARM-EU Cultural Festival: “We Are the People?! Democratic Participation in Challenging Times – From November 4th to 7th, 2024, the GSiK Theme Week invites you to engage with our democracy! Under the title “We Are the People?! Democratic Participation in Challenging Times,” we will discuss how we can strengthen and defend democracy, especially in times of disinformation, populism, and social division. The two evening events on November 5th and 6th are also part of the CHARM-EU Cultural Festival, which this year is themed “Bridging Cultures, Embracing Diversity.”

Tuesday evening (05.11.) is dedicated to the topic “Threats to Democracy.” Following a keynote lecture on the subject, participants can choose between three workshops related to potential threats to democracy (Digitalization and Fake News, Right-Wing Extremism, and Capitalism). On Wednesday evening (06.11.), the focus will be on “Democracy for Everyone.” After a keynote lecture on the subject, three workshops will be available on the following topics: Democratic Participation of Marginalized Groups, Civil Disobedience, and the Influence of Civil Society on Legislation.

DE – GSiK-Themenwoche trifft auf CHARM-EU-Kulturfestival: „Wir sind das Volk?! Demokratische Partizipation in herausfordernden Zeiten“ – Vom 4. bis 7. November 2024 lädt die GSiK-Themenwoche dazu ein, sich mit unserer Demokratie auseinanderzusetzen! Unter dem Titel „Wir sind das Volk?! Demokratische Partizipation in herausfordernden Zeiten“ werden wir diskutieren, wie wir die Demokratie stärken und verteidigen können, insbesondere in Zeiten von Desinformation, Populismus und gesellschaftlicher Spaltung. Die beiden Abendveranstaltungen am 5. und 6. November sind auch Teil des CHARM-EU Kulturfestivals, das in diesem Jahr unter dem Motto „Bridging Cultures, Embracing Diversity“ steht.

Der Dienstagabend (05.11.) ist dem Thema „Threats to Democracy“ gewidmet. Nach einem Impulsvortrag zu diesem Thema können die Teilnehmer zwischen drei Workshops zu möglichen Bedrohungen der Demokratie (Digitalisierung und Fake News, Rechtsextremismus und Kapitalismus) wählen.
Am Mittwochabend (06.11.) liegt der Fokus auf „Demokratie für alle“. Nach einem Impulsvortrag zu diesem Thema werden drei Workshops zu folgenden Themen angeboten: Demokratische Partizipation von Randgruppen, Ziviler Ungehorsam und der Einfluss der Zivilgesellschaft auf die Gesetzgebung.

EN Irish for Beginners: A Unique Event for CHARM-EU TCD MSc Students 

We are offering a free Irish for Beginners session for all CHARM-EU TCD MSc students with Ciara Ní Mhurchú from the School of Irish and Celtic Studies on Wednesday the 21st of November at 9am. In this class, you will learn about where Irish is spoken, the different dialects of Irish, how introduce youselves, and ask each other some questions in Irish. You will be introduced to the basics of Irish phonetics and grammar and the emphasis will be on students actively speaking the language.

EN – Welcome to Montpellier excursion

This activity offers an interactive and educational excursion experience, enhancing decision-making, mapping skills, and active engagement through fun interactions. It focuses on improving reading skills and encourages dialogue about landscapes, making learning enjoyable and effective for students.
 
Participants use an app installed on their smartphones, which displays a map of the city with marked locations. Divided into teams of 3-10 people, you’ll visit these points and answer questions related to the city. It’s an engaging scavenger hunt in Montpellier, perfect for discovering the city center. Bienvenues à Montpellier!

FR – Welcome to Montpellier – promenade en centre ville

Cette activité offre une expérience interactive et éducative d’excursion, renforçant la prise de décision, les compétences en cartographie et l’engagement actif à travers des interactions ludiques. Elle met l’accent sur l’amélioration des compétences en lecture du paysage et encourage le dialogue des participants.
 
Les participants utilisent une application installée sur leur smartphone, qui affiche une carte de la ville avec des points marqués. Répartis en équipes de 3 à 10 personnes, vous visiterez ces points et répondrez à des questions sur la ville et son histoire. C’est une decouverte captivante, idéale pour découvrir le centre et l’histoire de Montpellier. Welcome to Montpellier !

JOHAN JEURING

Professor of Software Technology for Learning and Teaching at the department of Information and Computing Sciences and the Freudental Institue of Utrecht University in The Netherlands, and Chief Science Officer at DialogueTrainer, a company that offers simulations for communication skills training. He develops software technology to support learning and teaching, such as feedback in tutoring systems for mathematics, logic, and programming, automatic assessment of mathematics and programming, and artificial intelligence in education and simulations. His work is used in several learning environments, both in the Netherlands and other European countries.

EN Flora Choir at Åbo Akademi University – The female student choir, the Flora Choir at Åbo Akademi University, is celebrating its 80th anniversary. The festivities includes an anniversary concert with the theme Fristad (sanctuary, asylum, refuge) and also a banquet, a composition competition and an anniversary tour. The choir will also participate in the World Choral Cup in Calella (north of Barcelona) in October 2024. The short film shows the musical, cultural and community aspects of the student life. Filmed in Åbo, to be shown in Budapest.
 
SV Florakören vid Åbo Akademi – Den kvinnliga studentkören Florakören vid Åbo Akademi firar sitt 80-årsjubileum. Festligheterna omfattar en jubileumskonsert med temat Fristad, men också en bankett, en kompositionstävling och en jubileumsturné. Kören kommer också att delta i World Choral Cup i Calella (norr om Barcelona) i oktober 2024. Kortfilmen visar de musikaliska, kulturella och samhälleliga aspekterna av studentlivet. Filmad i Åbo, ska visas i Budapest.

Description:

EN Linguistic Trivia: Exploring cultures and Linguistic Roots in CHARM-EU

The activity involves an interactive quiz with questions using Wooclap or Kahoot!
Part 1 consists of general culture questions, focusing on peculiarities, traditions, customs, and practices of the countries that are part of the CHARM alliance: Spain, Hungary, France, Ireland, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, and Finland. The second part will focus on similarities between languages.
Part 1 questions could include: ‘In which country is it common to greet with two to three kisses on the cheek?’ or ‘What time do they have dinner in Spain?’ Part 2 questions will involve language recognition, such as ‘Can you recognize this language?’ with an audio presented in German, or ‘Can you recognize this language?’ with a text presented in Hungarian (poetry, books). The Part 2 questions will be superficial and won’t require in-depth knowledge. The quiz will be conducted in teams, with teams composed of students from more than one different country.
 

FR Trivia linguistique : Explorer les cultures et les racines linguistiques dans CHARM-EU

L’activité consiste en un quiz interactif avec des questions utilisant Wooclap.
La première partie consiste en des questions de culture générale, axées sur les particularités, les traditions, les coutumes et les pratiques des pays qui font partie de l’alliance CHARM : Espagne, Hongrie, France, Irlande, Allemagne, Pays-Bas, Norvège et Finlande. La deuxième partie portera sur les similitudes entre les langues.
Les questions de la première partie pourraient être les suivantes Dans quel pays a-t-on l’habitude de se saluer en se faisant deux ou trois bises sur la joue ? ou « À quelle heure dîne-t-on en Espagne ? Les questions de la partie 2 porteront sur la reconnaissance de la langue, par exemple : « Pouvez-vous reconnaître cette langue ? » avec un document audio présenté en allemand, ou « Pouvez-vous reconnaître cette langue ? » avec un texte présenté en hongrois (poésie, livres). Les questions de la partie 2 seront superficielles et ne nécessiteront pas de connaissances approfondies. Le quiz se déroulera en équipes, les équipes étant composées d’étudiants de plusieurs pays différents.
