Application is now open for the new edition of our transdisciplinary Master’s in Global Challenges for Sustainability. The special programme welcomes students from diverse backgrounds and study fields who would like to acquire future-proof knowledge and competences by working on real-life sustainability challenges.
“Rapid and equitable global change means that students in a wide range of disciplines must learn to synergize with researchers, international partners and extra-academic stakeholders” – emphasized CHARM-EU colleagues in their contribution featured in Nature, the world’s leading multidisciplinary science journal. In this spirit, the Master’s in Global Challenges for Sustainability – developed jointly by CHARM-EU partner universities –, combines a range of innovative teaching and learning approaches to prepare students for effective collaboration and creative problem solving with businesses, authorities and civil society.
Global Challenges for Sustainability is the first accredited Master’s degree under the criteria of the European Universities initiative. The 18 months-long (90 ECTS) programme is a unique opportunity to obtain an accredited master’s degree jointly awarded by five CHARM-EU partner universities: the University of Barcelona, Trinity College Dublin, Utrecht University, Eötvös Loránd University and the University of Montpellier. Application is open to students with a Bachelor’s degree in any field of study who would like to gain an advanced understanding and future-proof skills in sustainability issues.
The CHARM-EU Master’s is a special, fully international and intercultural experience: students attend classes in one of the five CHARM-EU universities and connect to the other campuses online through hybrid classrooms. International mobility is an integrated part of the programme combining the best of a truly international classroom and activities such as phase mobility, virtual and short-term mobility. CHARM-EU students will be able to follow a unique learning path through Europe that supports their learning needs and ambitions.
Throughout the three phases of the programme, students learn within an international network of research hubs comprising local scientists and teachers, experts and external stakeholders. They working on complex sustainability issues and gain skills crucial to deal with the challenges of the future. The programme fosters the links between education, research and innovation: the active engagement of CHARM-EU’s extended network of experts and extra-academic actors enables students to establish links with businesses and society to work with companies and institutions around the world, increasing their employability.
