From May 25th to June 11th, the Polytech Montpellier graduate School from the University of Montpellier (France), in cooperation with Montpellier SupAgro and the “Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie” of Montpellier, is organizing a 3-week Summer School programme called FLOW. The event will take place entirely online and will be the third pilot activity offering to experience CHARM-EU’s unique pedagogical model.
An all-around programme …
The programme will offer 45 hours of scientific courses (lectures, lab activities and scientific visits) delivered by recognized experts to choose from 3 scientific tracks:
Students will also engage in a tutored cross-disciplinary project on Sustainability. Both the courses and the tutored project will be strongly connected to the challenges in the fields of food, water, materials, energy and data sciences. Additionally, participants will benefit from a course focusing on French language, culture and interculturality and will have free access to an international specific module on vine and wine created by the renowned Agro Institute.
… with CHARM-EU values at its core
Just like the CHARM-EU model, the FLOW Summer School is student-centred and will offer students the opportunity to choose a scientific path in line with their own professional project. With the courses and tutored project focusing on challenges connected to sustainability issues, FLOW perfectly embodies the challenge-based approach and the will to strive for a more sustainable future that are at the core of the CHARM-EU initiative. The transdisciplinary and the international and intercultural aspect of FLOW are also aligned with CHARM-EU values, making it the perfect showcase of the CHARM-EU experience. If you are a student who aspires to join CHARM-EU, you definitely don’t want to miss the FLOW Summer School!
Focus on the tutored project: tutors wanted!
Besides scientific lectures, Flow Summer School will run a tutored cross-disciplinary project on sustainability all over the 3 weeks. The objective of the project is to work in groups from different cultures and scientific disciplines in order to write the specifications of an innovative product/service responding to one of the 17 sustainable development goals established by the United Nations. This project also includes an initiation to project management.
Knowledge Creating Teams (KCTs) members could participate as tutors for such students group. It represents about 1-2 working hours per week and per student group supervised. Colleagues may ask for retribution (about 180€ per student group supervised) but should complete a dedicated application form.
How to participate?
FLOW is opened to all undergraduate international students who have completed their first or second year of study in the field of engineering and with a specific interest for one of the 3 topics of FLOW (Food, Living Organisms and Water). Interested? Wait no longer, you can pre-register here until 15 March 2021. You will then be contacted by the CHARM-EU team to enter to admission process which will require you to send a CV and a short essay/video explaining your motivation to join the programme.
10 CHARM-EU students will have the opportunity to participate in the Summer School for free (fee waivers). The students who will engage in the programme will also be granted a certification with an 8 ECTS value as well as a university diploma from the University of Montpellier.
