SUMMARY:The transformative impact of CIVICA on global challenges | Knowledg
 e and Informal Diplomacy
DESCRIPTION:The KIND conference aims to explore the role of universities as
informal diplomatic actors\, deepening the understanding of their transfo
rmative role within the CIVICA alliance and the broader context of the Eur
opean Universities Initiative.\n\n\nAs our global landscape continues to e
volve rapidly\, knowledge serves as a critical tool for informed decision-
making and innovative responses to pressing global issues. Through their '
third mission\,' universities expand their influence beyond traditional ac
ademic roles\, emerging as informal diplomatic actors. They foster global
collaboration and address common challenges such as public health crises\,
climate change\, and geopolitical tensions.\n\nFunded by the CIVICA Call
for Thematic Activities\, the KIND conference seeks to explore how CIVICA
contributes to fostering global cooperation\, advancing international dial
ogue\, and addressing shared global challenges. By focusing on the collabo
rative efforts of CIVICA partners\, the conference will highlight how acad
emic institutions engage in diplomacy through knowledge-driven initiatives
.\n\nThe conference will include representatives from five CIVICA universi
 ties (EUI\, LSE\, Bocconi\, CEU\, SGH) including senior faculty\, academic
s\, doctoral students\, alumni\, and staff. In addition\, it will host rep
resentatives from other university alliances participating in the European
Universities Initiative\, alongside Ukrainian universities\, EU policymak
ers\, and high-level stakeholders. This diverse gathering will foster a mu
lti-stakeholder dialogue enriched by various perspectives.\n\nOver the two
-day conference\, we will examine how universities contribute to knowledge
creation\, shape community integration\, and influence science policy int
eractions. We will explore their evolving role in global affairs\, discuss
ing potential tensions and concerns. Understanding this shift is crucial f
 or university leaders\, researchers\, educators\, students\, and policymak
ers\, as it underscores the strategic importance of universities as indepe
ndent actors in current affairs.\n\nKey Questions for Discussion\n\n What
role do universities play in fostering understanding and cooperation in t
he context of current geopolitical challenges and conflicts through inform
al diplomacy?\n How do universities\, particularly those within the CIVIC
A alliance\, act as informal diplomatic actors?\n In what ways can the kn
owledge produced and disseminated by universities influence international
 relations and policy-making?\n\nMore information here.\n\n
