DESCRIPTION:The team of the CHARM-EU work package “Mobility” invites you to participate in a 2-day staff training for Outgoing Coordinators or Student Advisors for Erasmus mobility. The aim of this staff training is to increase the knowledge about our partner institutions in the alliance and their offers for our students\, to provide you with more insights for your daily advising tasks. \nWe will focus on staff from the central international offices and staff from the faculties to ensure that you will meet your peers. We will exchange know-how about the current Erasmus regulations and share best practices on processing\, developing and increasing exchange. \nThe staff training will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday\, June 24 – 25\, 2026 at the University of Würzburg\, Germany. SUMMARY:Cooperation with China: Developing Competences and Structures in European Higher Education
DESCRIPTION:28–29 September 2026\n University of Würzburg\, Germany\n					\n				\n									Register Now\n					 \nScientific cooperation between European universities and partners in the People’s Republic of China continues to play an important role across disciplines. At the same time\, academic collaboration increasingly unfolds within a complex geopolitical and regulatory environment. Universities are expected to navigate evolving policy frameworks\, heightened public scrutiny\, and questions of institutional responsibility\, while safeguarding academic freedom\, research integrity and international openness. \nAgainst this backdrop\, the China Competence Centre of the University of Würzburg and the KoWinChi project (Interacting Competently with China in Science) — a joint programme of the University of Würzburg and FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg\, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Research\, Technology and Space — invite participants from across Europe to exchange experiences and reflect together on institutional approaches to cooperation with China. \nOver the past two years\, the KoWinChi project has worked closely with researchers and administrative staff at German universities to strengthen awareness\, institutional sensitivity and informed engagement in academic cooperation with China. With this conference\, we would like to continue the discussion within the broader European context\, creating space for comparative perspectives and shared reflection on institutional approaches\, governance practices\, and academic engagement. \nThe conference will address the following themes: \n\nEuropean messaging towards China: interpretations and impact\nManaging collaboration with China: institutional approaches\nRisk management in academic cooperation with China\nWillkommenskultur: making international students feel welcome\n\n  \nThe first day will feature analytical and practice-oriented panels\, bringing together university leadership\, researchers\, administrators\, and policy actors engaged in European–China academic cooperation. Participants will work in small groups to “pitch” a solution to a local community challenge\, focusing on how entrepreneurship can support democratic values like equity and inclusion.  \nHow to make your research or teaching methodologies more transdisciplinar? \nMoving from theory to practice\, this session explores how researchers and teachers can adapt their projects/work on a more transdisciplinar way of doing things. \nFrom Inclusion to Resilience: European University Alliances in times of crises  \nIn recent years\, universities and alliances have had to respond to different types of crises: social inequalities\, mental health issues\, migration\, political tensions\, climate-related challenges and increasing mistrust towards institutions.  At the same time\, European University Alliances are becoming long-term cooperation structures with the capacity to connect universities\, local stakeholders and communities across borders.  This workshop would like to explore a simple question: beyond academic cooperation\, how can alliances connect and support people and communities in times of crisis?  The workshop would also be an opportunity to exchange experiences between alliances and reflect collectively on what could realistically be developed together in the future.  \n  \nCHARM-EU Values in the Classroom: Practical Methods    \nHow do we “teach” democracy? This session is for educators and students to share tools for bringing CHARM-EU values into the curriculum. We will explore how to facilitate difficult conversations and ensure that “Challenge-Based Learning” remains rooted in respect and fundamental rights.  \nOpen Science Made Simple: Sharing Knowledge for a Stronger Society  \nOpen Science is often seen as a technical hurdle\, but it is a democratic tool. This workshop provides a “starter kit” for researchers to make their work open and transparent. Participants will work in small groups to “pitch” a solution to a local community challenge\, focusing on how entrepreneurship can support democratic values like equity and inclusion.  \nHow to make your research or teaching methodologies more transdisciplinar? \nMoving from theory to practice\, this session explores how researchers and teachers can adapt their projects/work on a more transdisciplinar way of doing things. \nFrom Inclusion to Resilience: European University Alliances in times of crises  \nIn recent years\, universities and alliances have had to respond to different types of crises: social inequalities\, mental health issues\, migration\, political tensions\, climate-related challenges and increasing mistrust towards institutions.  At the same time\, European University Alliances are becoming long-term cooperation structures with the capacity to connect universities\, local stakeholders and communities across borders.  This workshop would like to explore a simple question: beyond academic cooperation\, how can alliances connect and support people and communities in times of crisis?  The workshop would also be an opportunity to exchange experiences between alliances and reflect collectively on what could realistically be developed together in the future.  \n  \nCHARM-EU Values in the Classroom: Practical Methods    \nHow do we “teach” democracy? This session is for educators and students to share tools for bringing CHARM-EU values into the curriculum. We will explore how to facilitate difficult conversations and ensure that “Challenge-Based Learning” remains rooted in respect and fundamental rights.  \nOpen Science Made Simple: Sharing Knowledge for a Stronger Society  \nOpen Science is often seen as a technical hurdle\, but it is a democratic tool. This workshop provides a “starter kit” for researchers to make their work open and transparent. We will discuss the benefits of sharing data and how it builds public trust in science and democratic institutions.  \nIn the democratic lab: live deliberative experiment \nChair: Isak Vento \nThe results of this experiment (including an analysis based on the questionnaires) will be presented with the closing remarks in 10-15 minutes. \nSocial Entrepreneurship: Building Solutions for Resilient Communities  \nHow can we turn academic ideas into tools for societal welfare?
